I am eating vs. I eat. In German, there is no distinction between these; both of them would translate to ich esse. Wie geht's? [ edit | edit source] This the common German phrase for, "How are you? " This sentence uses the German verb gehen. More formally, the question is " Wie geht es dir/Ihnen? " (the later being the formal equivalent).
